Merchandise imports to the United States should increase slightly this peak season, even over last year’s robust performance, as retailers attempt to stay ahead of threatened Trump administration tariffs and higher bunker fuel costs in the lead up to the Jan. 1, 2020, implementation of global low-sulfur fuel regulations.
